Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries

miss fishers murder mysteries

I've been watching a lot more TV shows lately — not all are gripping enough to keep me interested for very long, though. Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries has everything you'd expect from a great period murder mystery show: A stylish, strong-willed  woman, a gold pistol, lots of fashionably-dressed people and. . .a handsome police inspector. The Australian TV series just released its first season on Blu-ray and DVD, in celebration of its second season coming out.  … [Read more...]

ModCloth on the Carrie Diaries

modcloth carrie diaries

Are you a Sex and the City (SATC) mega-fan, like I am? did you love all the fashion from the series? The spin-off show The Carrie Diaries takes viewers back to the 1980s and Carrie Bradshaw's teenage years. Have you been watching The Carrie Diaries?  I was born in 1980, so I really grew up in the 90s, but I don't remember the 80s looking quite so good as it does in this show! One of my favourite online stores to look for dresses, tops, skirts and pretty shoes is ModCloth. In the season … [Read more...]

Vintage Lace for Wedding Ideas and Looks

Between Thanksgiving and New Year's eve, more people get engaged than any other time of year. If you're married, did you have a long or short engagement? So far this year, 2 people that I know have gotten married, and several more will be typing the knot later this spring and summer, too. As you may know, Pantone's colour of the year is Emerald Green, and with the movie "Oz, The Great and Powerful" coming out soon, I thought that a lovely Emerald Green wedding theme would be perfect. I am a … [Read more...]

Store Tour – Mid-Century Modern HOME in New Westminster B.C.

While in New Westminster on an errand, last weekend, I stopped in to the River Market. The place is pretty empty, apart from a few bakeries and food places, and a small grocery store. One place I didn't expect to find there was a mid-century modern furniture store. This style of furniture is definitely my favourite , and I used to own quite a few pieces—before I moved back to Calgary, and then here again. The Mid-Century Modern HOME store recently moved to their new location in River Market, … [Read more...]

After buying trips in the Midwest, USA and elsewhere, the people behind The Found and the Freed set-up their display at the Interior Design Show West (IDSWest) in Vancouver this past September. Maybe it's because I've been catching up on season five of Mad Men, or maybe it's because I have a few pieces of furniture in our place that are vintage (kind of like the pieces in picture below), but I'm really drawn to the Vintage Modern looks from Schoolhouse Electric and Supply Co.  … [Read more...]

Maison au Naturel Interior Design by Schuyler Samperton

dried plant

I have eclectic tastes when it comes to interior design. How would I describe my tastes? It would be difficult, for certain. I like industrial, modern, vintage, classic pieces, etc. One of my homes will look like this 'Maison au Naturel', designed by interior designer Schuyler Samperton. A large part of me definitely loves the old, dusty books, vintage photos, wallpaper and 'cozy' feel of this look. … [Read more...]

Decorating an Office with Old World Charm

office vintage

I've always loved the look of those dusty old offices you see in moves—the ones with old leather chairs, architect stools and drafting tables, lots of drawered cabinets, and gorgeous vintage lamps of all kinds. Those offices make me think of Indiana Jones movies. To get the look (minus the dust), check out the ideas and inspiring photos below: Photo from TheDesignerPad These vintage-looking lamps are a nice touch, and an easy way to add some old-world charm to an otherwise modern … [Read more...]
