I can hardly believe that it’s now the third week of year all ready! I’ve been spending a lot of time clearing up things from last year—physically and mentally. I’ve shared with you the 3 Things I’m Letting go of and I’ll soon be sharing 3 things I’m focusing on this year, but this post is all about things that I want to do more of.
1. Playing Video Games
Don’t believe that gaming can make a better world? Check out the TED talk by Jane McGonigal below:
2. Reading
I’ve challenged myself to read all 3 Lord of the Rings books by June 30th (my birthday), which means about ½ a book per month, or around 250 pages. On top of that, I plan on reading 1 fiction and 1 non-fiction book per month, too. And I’ll be catching up on blogs via Feedly once a week, too. Phew! With all this reading I’ll be doing, I will need to cut back on my TV watching, which is precisely the idea. I have a “book cart” in my living room filled with books I’ve purchased but haven’t yet read. I can’t wait to get started on them. I have a tendency to start too-many books at the same time, so I’m limiting myself to just 1 fiction and 1 non-fiction to start with each month. If I finish those, I am free to pick up another book. I don’t really see that happening, though, since I’m also reading LOTR!
3. Exploring
My 2015 word of the year (and the word that is going to guide my actions for the next 12 months) is explore. Locally, and in the USA, I plan on taking advantage of opportunities to have adventures both small and large. I’ve created a list of 35 things to do before my 35th birthday (June 30th of this year) and a list for the second half of the year, too (36 by 36, naturally). This list of things that I’ve always wanted to do is a priority for the year. Things like going to a shooting range, flying in a helicopter, taking a to air balloon ride and more makes me feel excited and looking forward to having an adventurous year.
If I could add a forth thing, I would add: connecting. I’m looking to solidify my relationships this year and keep “my people” closeby. I’m still filling in the gaps and finding like-minded people I can connect with, which is really part of #3 exploring, anyway.
What are some things you’d like to do more of this year?
