5 Key Ways to Get your Ideas off the Ground

You’ve got the ideas. Now make ’em happen.

If you’re like me, you have no shortage of ideas floating around in your head. How many of those ideas do you actually end up acting on/making happen? Maybe it’s shiny object syndrome, or. . .”squirrel!” Whatever it is, it’s time now to start moving forward on some of your ideas. Here are five key ways to get your ideas off the ground:

1. Write down all your ideas

To clear up some mental space, write down all your ideas on one big list. If you have lots of ideas, use something like poster board so that you can look at all of them at once. Keep adding to your list as you go.

2. Focus on your top idea

Or choose up to 3. I find that 3 is my limit for projects on the go at any one time. But, do what works best for you. How do you choose what to work on first? It could be something that is the easiest to get going, something that is the cheapest to implement, or the one you’re most excited about. The key is to get started and build momentum to complete more of your ideas as you go. If any other ideas come to you during the time you’re focusing on something else, add those ideas to your ongoing list. Stay focused!

3. Schedule time

Set aside uninterrupted time when you can brainstorm how to complete your idea, what needs to happen next, and the actual execution of the idea you have.

4. Set a completion date

Pick a date to have your project completed. Sub-goals to hit along the way also work well to keep you motivated and moving towards completion. Celebrate your milestones along the way, not just when you’ve reached the end of your project.

5. Enlist support

Whether it’s financial support or moral support—share your project idea with those whom you like, know, and trust. Sharing what you’re working on will give you accountability.
