Saving the environment is an awarding experience, and whether you’re doing it already, or maybe you want to start today, I wanted to give you 7 steps that you can take to not only make your life greener, but help the environment as well.

#1 Start with recycling – Yes, this is a no brainer, but you’re going to find that many people don’t do this.  If you don’t have a service in your area, check with your schools, or fire departments to see who has dumpsters set out front.  You will find that recycling will save you a ton of trash each week.

#2 Make a compost pile – If you own a home, start up a little pile out in your backyard, where you can throw out all of your food scraps.  All you have to do is throw all your food in a pile, and let it decompose.  This is not only great for the soil, but the environment as well.

#3 Plant a garden, or buy locally – You will find that if you plant your own garden, you can grow a lot of items.  From growing herbs, to vegetables, you can get a lot of it.  By doing this, you will limit your grocery store purchases, where many of them get them from overseas.#4 Watch the energy in your home – If you don’t have one already, get a programmable thermostat.  When you get one, you’re going to find that you will want to set the temperatures down when you sleep, as well as when you’re not home, or at work.  You will also want to look into installing fluorescent bulbs, as well as purchasing energy star appliances.

#5 Opt out of junk mail – 95% of the mail out there today just seems like junk.  Since you’re just throwing it away, you will want to opt out of it.  Opt out of credit card offers, as well as junk mail by going to OptOutPreScreen.com.

#6 Wash with cold – Line drying your clothing, as well as washing them with cold water will lower your bill significantly. You’ll be surprised at how much energy your older washer and drying machines use when you wash your clothing.

#7 Go paperless – In today’s technological world, there’s no reason to use a lot of paper.  Write notes on items such as the iPad, as well as pay your bills online.

You will find that there are so many ways to go green.  By starting with the tips above, you will find that not only will you feel better about what you’re doing, but you’re helping the planet as a whole.  Remember that every single person out there helps!
