Being Canadian

This month is Asian Heritage Month in Canada. Rather than try to do some sort of
summary of all the countries in Asia (that would take way too long!) or some other
write-up, I thought that I would take this opportunity to show you aspects of that
vast and diverse continent in picture form:
Angkor Wat Reflection via Avidin’s gallery
A Buddha image at Isurumuniya rock temple, Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka via suresh_krishna
Penang, Malaysia via my webshots album
Qut’b Minar Complex Delhi, India via my webshots album

Manila, Philippines via anyoflores
Yuntian Cultural City, Yulin, Guangxi via hlchoo
Yemenvia via xiscob

Now that we have all decided to go on a mega Asia trip after looking at those
photos, what will you do to celebrate Asian Heritage Month closer to home?

“In Canada, our cultural diversity enriches all of us socially, politically and economically, in innumerable ways. Asian Heritage Month is an ideal occasion for all Canadians to celebrate the beauty and wisdom of various Asian cultures. It also affords an opportunity to acknowledge the many and varied contributions of Asian Canadians to our communities and to our country,” said Minister Copps, Minister of Canadian Heritage  via Asian Canadian site

This events calendar shows the diversity of programs on offer this year to celebrate Asian Heritage Month. There are lots of film festivals, street festivals, musical performances etc.

Places in Asia that I have visited (not including switching planes): India, China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand. I went to S.E. Asia, Hong Kong and China for 6 weeks in 2007. I wrote about that trip a bit here. I went all over India around the coast for 6 months in 2002/4. My ancestors are from Gujarat, India but my parents, aunts and uncles and some cousins are all from East Africa: Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania.
