How to Decorate for the Holidays in a Rental Place PLUS #Giveaway $200 ARV

I love to celebrate the changing of the seasons by decorating accordingly. Usually, a few changes to my sofa in the form of different cushions and throws work well—but around the holidays, I like to make things extra cozy. I’m sure you can think of a few types of decorations that you typically bring out every year around this time— The challenge: how do I add these fun, festive seasonal elements to my apartment without damaging the walls and angering my landlords? I’ve got just the solution: with 3M Command Brand!

decorate for the holidays

While I don’t have a fireplace or mantel, which would be perfect for displaying holiday cards, hanging stockings from and decorating, I do have a wall-mounted shelf. You have to do the best you can with what you have, right? The wall shelf serves its purpose—it’s high enough up from my TV to allow me to hang my lone stocking from, and it’s deep and long enough to be able to layer a few decorations on.

I hung up my stocking using one of the utensil hooks I received, and decorating clips to hold the garland in place and to hang ornaments from. They are clear and have a clear backing so they are virtually invisible on top of my shelf.

Why would you use 3M Command Brand products to decorate for the holidays over traditional tools like nails and screws? Well, you can easily remove these products by pulling on the tab, leaving nothing behind on the wall or surface. This is so perfect for rental places—and I use the range of products for all my decorating needs, like hanging pictures, organizing my bags and jackets and so much more.

How to Decorate for the Holidays in a Rental Place

Here are a few ways that you can use 3M Command Brand Strips to decorate for the holidays:

  • Use the large outdoor wreath hook to (you guessed it) hang a wreath outside your door (if you have outside access/are renting a house)
  • Add a hook to the wall to hang stockings
  • Garlands and strings of lights can easily be attached to the wall or a shelf with either the cord organizers or the decorating clips
  • Use poster strips to make a display of holiday cards on the wall
  • No room for a Christmas tree? Get creative and make a wall display in the shape of a tree. Attach pictures, paper decorations and greeting cards to the wall with poster strips or Command Strips.

Another use (non-decorative):

Add a few extra hooks that hold up to 5lbs in your front entrance to hold all those extra jackets, scarves and bags you’ll be having to deal with from guests and yourself.

Command products come in a variety of sizes and can be found in stores across Canada, including Staples, Walmart, Canadian Tire, Home Depot, Home Hardware and Target. Check out the Command Strips website for coupons to get your decorating started.

To help one lucky reader deck the halls this December, I have a special giveaway: a 3M Canada basket filled with $150 worth of products from brands such as Command, Scotch, Scotch-Brite, Post-it, and Nexcare, plus a $50 Cash Gift Card.
