If you have been involved in a motor vehicle accident, you probably have a lot going through your mind. You are probably concerned that you have been injured, and you might be worried about the other people who are involved in the accident. You are probably also wondering what to do next. Even though it can be stressful to be involved in a motor vehicle accident, it is critical to think clearly about what you should do. There are a few steps you should follow. Learn more about what you should do after a motor vehicle accident, and reach out to a car wreck attorney.

1. Call 911 and Ask for Police and EMS

The first thing you should do after a motor vehicle accident is to ask for police officers and emergency medical personnel to come to the scene of the collision. You need to call 911 as quickly as possible. You may feel like your car is fine. You might feel like there is no damage; however, you cannot see underneath the surface. You never know if there might be damage you can’t see, and it is important to make sure you have a record of the accident. The only person who can create a record for you is the police officer. Furthermore, even if you feel fine, you never know if you have injuries that are not yet causing symptoms. That is why you should ask for EMS to come to the scene as well.

2. Be Honest With the Police Officers

When the police officers arrive, be honest with them. Try not to worry about what the other person is or is not saying. The only thing you can do is tell the police what happened from your perspective. Try to be very straightforward with them. Let them know the direction you were traveling, when the accident happened, and what you felt at the time of the collision. If the police officers have additional questions for you, answer them honestly. When they are done, do not forget to ask for a copy of the accident report. If they didn’t document it, it is like it never even happened.

3. See a Doctor

You should also see a doctor as quickly as possible following a car accident. Even if the ambulance does not take you to the hospital, you should go to the emergency room to get looked at by a doctor. Then, do not forget to follow up with your family care doctor as well. Even if you feel fine, you have a lot of adrenaline going through your system. It can mask a lot of injuries underneath the surface. When you are done, ask for a copy of your medical records. You might need them to support your claim down the road.

4. Call an Attorney

Finally, you should always reach out to a motor vehicle accident attorney soon as possible, read more here, why you should. You should not talk to the other party’s attorney or insurance company without having a lawyer on your side. If the accident was not your fault, you should not be responsible for the financial expenses stemming from the accident. Even if it was your fault, your insurance policy may pay for the cost of the damage depending on the type of insurance policy you have. You need to make sure you have compensated appropriately for the accident. The only way this will happen is if you know how much her injuries are worth and how to negotiate accordingly. That is why you should reach out to a car accident attorney who can represent you.

Rely on a Car Accident Attorney To Help You

These are a few of the most important steps you need to follow after a motor vehicle accident. Even though it can be stressful to be involved in a car accident, this is not something you need to go through alone. Remember that you could always see a doctor as quickly as possible after a car accident, and then reach out to an attorney who specializes in motor vehicle accidents. That way, you will have a legal expert who can walk through the process, making sure that all of your rights are protected as the process unfolds.
