The Calm After the Storm—Essentia’s Grand Opening in Calgary

Located in Kensington, one of the best shopping area in Calgary, Essentia stands out on a street where kitschy décor and accessory shops overexcite the senses. The simplicity of the interior of this Natural Memory Foam (and more) store, made me feel instantly relaxed—probably exactly how you’d want to feel when picking out a mattress.

I checked out the grand opening of the Calgary location of Essentia this past weekend. The customers in the store were encouraged to try out each mattress and pillow on display. There’s plenty of room around the beds with different models of mattresses and pillows, to really relax and have a chance to fully check out the differences before deciding on their favourite(s).

While the cost of the natural foam mattresses might intimidate some people—I’ve played The Sims for years and know of the importance of the comfort and energy scores. I think these mattresses and pillows are well-above a score of 10!

essentiaIf you need a break from mattress-testing, this big, comfy armchair is a welcome spot to rest. I loved the simple elegance of the floor to ceiling display of the boxes of organic cotton sheet sets. A set of the organic cotton sheets came home with me, and I will be sharing my thoughts on them shortly.

Both of these pillows are on my list of things I want in my future home!

As someone who has very sensitive skin and sinuses, I have to be careful with what I put next to my skin. Harsh chemicals and synthetic materials—especially off-gasing from mattresses and bedding really irritate my skin. I learned that the mattresses from Essentia are designed in Laval, Quebec. You can read more about the mattresses, about natural vs. organic  vs. synthetic on the Essentia site.

The Essentia store in Calgary is located at 1113 Kensington Road N.W.

While you can look at, and purchase mattresses, pillows and sheets in one of the Essentia stores located in Canada and the USA, you can also purchase from the online store, which offers free shipping.

I was not financially compensated for this post, however, I did receive sheets to review (coming soon).
