How to Make Your Own Facial Cleansers {Guest Post}

Here are two simple and affordable facial cleansers you can make from home. You may be surprised to find you already own several of the ingredients! As you read the instructions, feel free to add in, or substitute, what you’d like. Other than the health benefits of using non-chemical cleansers on your skin, homemade products are highly versatile and adjustable to your needs.

Product #1 Fennel Seed Cleanser.
Lemon squeeze. Before Straining.

Fennel Cleanser
Parts and Price:
(all found and purchased at Whole Foods)
1 organic locally grown lemon = $0.99
1 spice container of fennel seeds= $3.99
1 small spice container of Thyme= $1.99

1/2 cup boiling water
Total: about
$7-$8 with tax
(Price of jar not included. CLICK HERE to view different containers and estimate cost)
Directions: Mix thyme and fennel seed in a bowl and cover with boiling water. Add lemon juice and let steep for 15 minutes. Strain infusion and store liquid in a jar. Keep in refrigerator *…Because this cleanser is so gentle, it can be used every morning. Simply dab it on face and neck with cotton ball.*
Product #2 Green Tea Toner.

What the Green Tea Came in

Green Tea Toner
Parts and Price:
Powdered Green Tea= approx. $1 (Whole foods has huge jars of powdered Tea. The one I chose was a/b $20 a lb and I took approx. 2 teaspoons.)
Water
(Price of jar not included. CLICK HERE to view different containers and estimate cost)

The Process: Again, too easy! Just boil tea in water for 10 minutes, and you’ve got a facial toner!

That’s the Fennel on the left and Green Tea on the right.

I recommend you refrigerate both products and apply generously (as needed) with a cotton ball.

So basicaly, left over green tea can be used as a cleanser. No more wasting leftover tea! Many herbal teas are good for skin and as hair rinses.

Another good one I heard about on another blog is to lightly grind some oatmeal, take some in your hand and wet it, then apply to a wet face massaging a little extra around problem areas. Leave on for a few minutes then rinse off. It makes your skin very soft.
