Post 4: Office

The second bedroom of our home, just like the rest of the apartment, had beige walls and blinds, and blue–grey carpet. It was everywhere! Thankfully, this room is also of a pretty good size for an apartment, and could easily fit a double bed if needed.

We painted over the beige walls with the same colour we’d used throughout the rest of the apartment. The beige blinds have stayed for now, as they’re largely hidden behind the tall desk (which has been travelling with me from home to home for over a decade now). We decided to use the room as a combined study and guest room, so we have a double futon sofa for when family members come to visit. My husband also uses the space for his sculpting, and the Kartell Componbilli unit stores his tools away neatly.

The most effective change I made in this room (aside from painting, of course!) was to change the look of the futon sofa. As you can see in the first pictures, it once had a hideous blue and orange pattern — fixed very easily by putting the entire mattress inside a double quilt cover! I also jazzed up some plain plastic storage drawers by attaching textured wrapping paper to the front. I really like this space a lot as I can hang out on the sofa and read a magazine while my husband does his sculpting (at least, I can when we don’t have unfolded laundry covering the sofa!).

Hope you all enjoyed that home tour!

Love that you stuck with a simple colour scheme – red, white, black!
