It’s the time of year when you’re likely going to have more of your family around for the upcoming holidays. If you’re anything like me, you have certain things that were given to you by family members, perhaps passed down to you.
Do you tend to hide your family heirlooms or antiques, throughout most of the year and only bring them out when you have family coming over? Or, perhaps you have received some real treasures, that you actually enjoy, but you’re not sure how best to display them?
The trick is to add in your heirlooms or antiques in such a way that they don’t stand out too much, but instead blend in naturally with the rest of your décor. Typically, at least in the movies, people tend to put that one ugly piece on their mantel or in the centre of their dining table. If the rest of your décor is more close to modern than antique, doing this will draw too much attention the one particular item.
If your heirloom is an entire collection of items, consider dedicating an entire wall or corner to display everything. This way, you have a lot of space to add to the collection. Lots of people love to collect realistic firearm replicas like these buccaneer flintlock pistols. With plenty of display space, you can continue your family’s tradition of collecting historical weaponry or other items.
For smaller nick-nacks, an easy solution is to mix up a bookcase –rather than having all books on each shelf, add an antique or two to spread things out.
