Lessons Learned from a Knee Injury

I never expected something so terrible to happen to me. Knee meniscus injuries like the one I suffered can be the result of a sports injury, a sudden rotation of the knee joint, quickly getting up from a deep knee squat or from something else. When I injured my knee at work, I tried to shake it off. I’d never broken a bone or had major pain before, so I didn’t know what was happening for several days.

My Life was Forever Changed the day I Suffered a Knee Injury

I Learned a few Things When I Had Torn Cartilage in my Knee

I can experience joy independent of an injury or setback.

Just because I was in pain and had to deal with the lack of money and not being able to get around very easily, didn’t mean that I didn’t feel happy at times.

It’s difficult for other people to relate to what I’m going through if they’ve never had a knee injury.

I was given advice to ice my knee or to wear a knee brace. I wish I’d known more about my options and been in touch with someone who was knowledgeable for some support.

That Wound will Never Fully Heal.

Elrond: His strength returns.
Gandalf: That wound will never fully heal. He will carry it the rest of his life.
Elrond: And yet, to have come so far, still bearing the Ring, the hobbit has shown extraordinary resilience to its evil.
Gandalf: It is a burden he should never have had to bear. We can ask no more of Frodo.

This exchange from The Fellowship of the Ring resonates with me. My knee still bothers me almost two years after the injury and emotionally, I don’t think I will ever fully recover.

I’ve recently been working on strengthening my knees and legs in general in order to gain more flexibility and increase my range of motion. Daily stretching seems to work well for me. I hope to be able to go on longer and more challenging hikes in the future as I work on strengthening my knees and legs.

Tampa injury attorneys can offer support and assistance if you’ve suffered a knee or other personal injury. Having assistance from those who know what you’re going through can make all the difference when you have a personal injury.
