Here is proof that a few changes can make a huge difference. We didn’t change anything too major – just some soft furnishings. Using our new Laura Ashely NX800 Brother Sewing Machine, we put together some new curtains for our living room with fabric from IKEA. We also bought our rug from IKEA.
Here is the sewing machine extraordinaire, incase you haven’t read my review post –
As you can see, we have some awful checkered linoleum floors and some rather plain curtains. Of course, with the orange walls and the Boby Cart by Joe Columbo, we aren’t lacking colour!
Another view of the old curtain, with our YamahaSound Projector on the shelf, and our Rancilio espresso machine/grinder.
Above you will see the fabric we chose for the curtains. It was inexpensive – maybe $30 total? I can’t really remember, actually. We made 4 narrow panels so that there wouldn’t be too much excess fabric to bunch up. Tabs were created for the top, to be put on the wooden rod. I saw ‘we’ but Greg is the sewer in our family. I never really learned how to sew, but with our new machine being so easy to use, I should really start practicing!
Here are the ‘after’ photos:
The rug makes an enormous difference in our place – it just feels so much more cozy and comfortable! I like the warmth it provides for my feet and the way it covers up the ugly linoleum floor – at least a bit! Plus, it acts as a room separator between the desks/office area and the living room proper.
