As with fashion and décor for spring—think light pastels, bold colours and floral shades—makeup for spring is also all about freshness.

The Hunger Games’ influence spreads to fashion and beauty, along with more typical venues—like other books, and movies. Because fashion and beauty trends tend to be somewhat fleeting—especially when you choose to add really bold colours or looks—I would recommend not spending your entire spring budget on lip colour or eyeshadow alone. There are inexpensive brands to choose from so that you can pick up a few new products in the latest spring colours. The number one trend I’ve seen when it comes to lip colour is influenced by The Hunger Games. A nude lip colour, as seen on Katniss Everdeen is always in fashion, but the bold colours seen on Capitol residents are much more trendy this spring.

There are nail polishes and lip colours named after the characters, and the looks of the characters are emulated in advertising. Definitely one of the most ‘out-there’ characters in terms of makeup and hair would be Effie Trinket from the Capitol. If you’re interested in adding a bit of her flair to your spring event look, I would suggest keeping it simple with a coloured eyeshadow or bright lipstick—but not both.

notice her neutral-colored clothing, which makes her lipstick stand out even more.

Here is just one colour from the many brands that offer inexpensive lipstick in this bright colour:

For spring, I like to wear more colourful clothing, so Katniss’ nude lips and natural look to her overall makeup (other than when she is dressed up by Cinna in a very ‘fiery’ look) works well with bold and pastel clothing.

I have always liked gold for eyeshadow/liner, so I was happy to see it shown on the character Cinna (as played by Lenny Kravitz) in the move The Hunger Games. This look would be great for an spring evening wedding or formal occasion.

I would suggest you pick up a few inexpensive, fun, colours of eyeshadow and lipstick—maybe bolder than you would normally wear—and try them out prior to the day of a big spring event. I know many people pick out their event outfits well-ahead of time, so why not try out your makeup look with your outfit?

What events do you have coming up this spring season?

Do you like to change up your makeup look to include new trends?

I like the wedding look best as well. Not a lover or this shade of lipstick..seems so dated. But what comes around goes around right. My sister-in-law has always worn this shade! Was she ahead of her time?

Yeah, I like the subdued shade in the wedding picture best, too. Hmm. . .maybe your SIL was ahead of her time! 🙂 I don't care for it on myself, but I am all for experimenting with different shades.

Love the wedding look, but cannot stand that shade on Lea, lol! Haven't seen Hunger Games (and haven't been planning on it), but am curious now to go find stills of the make-up art used.

I've recently purchased a bright green (I've never worn green before, so it will be a fun experiment I think!), but don't have any spring events to try it out with yet. And I definitely switch out makeup for new trends; always enjoy trying something new! 🙂

A bright green lipstick or eyeshadow? 🙂 I agree with you about Lea's look. It doesn't seem to match her skin-tone very well.

The hair on the wedding look is striking! I know it's silly, but I always liked that Bubblegum Pink shade that Nicki Minaj wears although I'm about 99% sure I could never ever ever pull it off!
