You put your most creative thoughts and drawings in to your journals and sketchbooks. Why would you want to use ordinary bound books to capture your creativity? Plum is a new line of notebooks designed and illustrated by contemporary artists. There are a wide variety of sizes and styles to suit all your needs.
One of the things I most like about Plum notebooks is that, since they’re designed by people who actually use them for their creative needs, they’re well-thought out and practical. These are no ordinary, plain notebooks: the insides are just as beautiful as the outsides.
The Collecting Book, designed by Jason Polen is designed as a scrapbook to keep your ticket stubs, newspaper clippings and all the other things you want to look back on. This notebook features tabbed sections, 5 coloured pages and a postcard at the back with a bit of info on the artist. Some things that I’ll be using the Collecting Book for: museum and attraction entrance flyers and information, ticket stubs, old plane tickets, and little notes.
The Elevated Journal is lovely and bright. The front cover has a bright splash of orange sketched on it and, and has blue pages within. I love the dyed aqua edges, and the size of this journal. It’s a good size to put in your bag and take it with you.
Whenever I’m writing, drawing, creating in other ways, there’s always good music playing in the background. Over time, whatever I’m listening to becomes associated in my mind with what I’m creating. The connection between music and creativity is what artist Nathaniel Russell had in mind when he designed the Drawn to Music journal for Plumb. Generously record-sleeve sized (and shaped), this journal allows space to write the details of what music you’re listening to on each sheet of paper.
When I’m out sketching, I prefer to have a spiral bound notebook, like the one Linda Geary designed. Spiral Journal includes a hardcover front with watercolour print. This notebook lies flat and has a durable cover, making this perfect for packing in your carry-on bag or throwing it in your backpack and setting out on your adventures.
All my best thoughts go straight in to the Tangle Notebook. I love the soft cover and the smooth pages within. The tabbed sections work well to help me keep organized. Other features I like include the vertical line down each page and the combination of lined and blank pages.
Priced between $10 and $28, Plum notebooks are unique gift ideas. I was provided with a few notebooks in order to share my thoughts on them with you.
