DIY Wood Finishing Project

by Tazim Damji

DIY minwax wood finishing project

It's been a while since I've stained and finished anything. I remember the process being really messy, time-consuming and involving a long wait time between steps. No wonder it took me so long to work on another project! When I heard about a product that was a stain and finish in one, and didn't involve messy liquids, I wanted to find out how to get my DIY on with a new project! Here, I'm testing out the Maple finish Minwax Wood Finishing Cloths on a piece of wood, which can be used to hold a ...

Store Tour – Mid-Century Modern HOME in New Westminster B.C.

by Tazim Damji

While in New Westminster on an errand, last weekend, I stopped in to the River Market. The place is pretty empty, apart from a few bakeries and food places, and a small grocery store. One place I didn't expect to find there was a mid-century modern furniture store. This style of furniture is definitely my favourite , and I used to own quite a few pieces—before I moved back to Calgary, and then here again. The Mid-Century Modern HOME store recently moved to their new location in River Market, ...

Red Home Decor Shop Tour— Fredericksburg Texas

by Tazim Damji

red home decor

One of the surprising highlights while stopping in Frederickburg, Texas—a sweet little German town close-driving-distance from both Austin and San Antonio—was Red. Red, a home décor shop chock-full of furniture, accessories and fabric to make your house a home, is just my style.  ...

Spotted: Antique Market Booth at Vancouver Home & Design Show

by Tazim Damji

One of the highlights of the Vancouver Home and Design Show was the Antique Market booth. I could see these pieces being used in a contemporary setting, because of the clean lines and the Restoration Hardware look.  ...

by Tazim Damji

mike lam furniture

It was a bit overwhelming checking out all the offerings at the recent Interior Design Show West (IDSWest) in Vancouver. I already told you about my top picks, but it was hard to narrow things down and there are quite a few other booths and companies I want to share with you as well. One such designer is Mike Lam, who creates amazing bent and other wood furniture.  ...

5 Highlights Interior Design Show West in Vancouver

by Tazim Damji

IDSWest OOAK District

It was decidedly more quiet and easier to move around and take pictures yesterday during the GE Café Trade Day at IDSWest than I'd experienced other years on general public days. In between attending Azure Trade Talks on the Para Design Stage, I checked out the booths, and came up with this list of 5 highlights at IDS West 2012. One of a Kind District It's hard to miss this section of the Interior Design Show West.Located just to the right of the entrance, the One of a Kind District featured ...

Restoration Hardware New Fall Source Book

by Tazim Damji

restoration hardware

I love stores that have lookbooks or sourcebooks available on their webpage, to incite interest and inspiration. Restoration Hardware's new fall sourcebook features a lot of what they do best—industrial/vintage chic. I appreciate the cold metal/rusted metal look of many of their pieces, mixed in with classicly comfy sofas other furnishings.  ...

New Fall Finds from West Elm—What I Could Use in My Own Home

by Tazim Damji

west elm new fall

Rather than just showing you things that I abstractly like, I decided to pick out pieces from West Elm (they recently opened a store in Vancouver, which I have yet to check out) that I think would work well in my own home. ...

Spring Finds from Gus Modern Furniture

by Tazim Damji

gus modern

Gus* Modern furniture is eco-friendly, well-designed and based in Canada. Jane Loft Bi-Sectional  I like the industrial look of this swing-arm lamp. My favourite item (and maybe the most popular one) is the 3-piece Prairie Table set of Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba, Canadian Prairie provinces. I love versatile pieces like this tree stump storage box: I could see this being used in a living room to store blankets. What else could you use this for? Maybe extra clothing, gloves ...
