Designing With Light—Philips LED Bulbs Transform Rooms

by Tazim Damji

The colourful room above, amply light shows how great a look you can achieve with LED lighting. Recently designer Samantha Pynn, from HGTV's The Mix, offered some tips on using lighting to change the look of and enhance a space: Designing with Light 1. All well-designed spaces have multiple light sources. Aim for a minimum of five-point combination lighting and ensure they are all dimmable to avoid increased energy consumption. 2. Arrange lighting at different heights. Using a range of ...

Eureka HandHeld 71B Vacuum Review

by Tazim Damji

The Eureka Hand-Held Vacuum is one of the best vacuums I've owned—and is certainly the best, most powerful handheld vacuum I've used.   A larger vacuum is handy for the floor, or for full-room cleaning, but something small and easily portable like the Eureka Hand-Held Vacuum is great for all those other jobs. The suction on this vacuum is great—really strong, so you can pick up all the large and small bits that make their way to the floor, upholstery and car seats. I find those vacuums ...

Looking for Kitchen Products For the Holidays

by Tazim Damji

Canadian Thanksgiving just passed (on Monday), which means it is the start of the entertaining season. One of the things I most enjoy doing during this time of year is hosting a dinner for friends and family, or putting together a pot-luck. I think that having the right serving dishes and cutlery really adds to the fun of the event. This month I will be sharing with you some of my favourite kitchen products, entertaining ideas and kitchen stores, too. Now that we live in Calgary, closer to ...

Mod 60s Interiors —Yacht X-Men First Class

by Tazim Damji

Recently, I watched the newest movie in the X-Men franchise: X-Men First Class, and couldn't help but be in awe of the 1960s interiors.  I love the mod, crisp whites and the high contrasts. All X-Men photos courtesy of 20th Century Fox I especially like the curved sofas, and if we can't  have a sunken living room, this would be the next best thing! Want to emulate the mod-look of the yacht in X-Men First Class  (because, I do!)? Check out my style tips below: I love the simple style of ...

My Mother is A Woman Who Helped Me

by Tazim Damji

My Mom Taught Me To Always Live Passionately I don't live in the same city as my mom, which makes it difficult to really talk to her. I mean, talk to her about things other than how I am doing at school or work—I love to hear what matters most to her. Two of my greatest passions came from her influence—creativity, and travelling/exploring the world. My mom also advocates helping others and being charitable. These are two things that my mom is really passionate about. I know my mom did a ...

Karim Rashid for Alessi Spring 2011

by Tazim Damji

Karim Rashid, typically known for his colourful, whimsical designs takes a different approach with his new collection for Alessi. These new pieces for Alessi, including a fruit holder, citrus basket and tray, are much more geometrical and angular than Rashid's previous designs. The Hellraiser series reminds me of Zelda: Twilight Princess! Citrus basket in mirror polished stainless steel ($266) and gray epoxy resin ($184). Tray in mirror polished stainless steel ($225) and gray ...

Living Room Before & After – New Curtains and Rug

by Tazim Damji

Here is proof that a few changes can make a huge difference. We didn't change anything too major - just some soft furnishings. Using our new Laura Ashely NX800 Brother Sewing Machine, we put together some new curtains for our living room with fabric from IKEA. We also bought our rug from IKEA. Here is the sewing machine extraordinaire, incase you haven't read my review post - As you can see, we have some awful checkered linoleum floors and some rather plain curtains. Of course, with the ...
