Transforming the Living Room & Dining Room with Olympic Paint—Renovation Redecoration

by Tazim Damji

olympic paint

In our quest to find the best no-VOC paint, Tazim and I have tried nearly every brand on the market.   Our first experiences could be cautionary tales that eco-friendly products aren't always all they're cracked up to be—but we were pleasantly surprised by Olympics Premium line, which offers no-VOC options at a value for quality price point.   Olympic is one of the only paint manufacturers to put their low/zero VOC-paint out there as their premium interior product—instead of ...

Update the Look of Your Door for Greater Curb Appeal – Weiser Lock Review

by Greg

And Update Your Security With the Smart Key Feature How old is the lock on your home? We've talked a little bit about the importance of upgrading your curb appeal, and you might be wondering where to start. Our top tip: with the front door of your home. The obvious is of course the old realtors trick of painting your door an appealing color that stands out from the street (it does work). Other ideas include replacing the door itself, whether with version with windows to bring light into ...

A Great Quality Paint Company—Para Paints Review

by Greg

Products that aren't available where you are sometimes have an exotic allure. A certain pull that comes from hearing buzz and whispers, but never being able to try it yourself. Like when you're a kid in elementary school and everyone else has the newest Cabbage Patch Kid, but you're stuck saving up your allowance for months, there's a real potency to that itch you just can't scratch. For years, we've heard whisperings about Para paints. A Canadian brand that's based 'Out East,' and is a ...

Renovation / Redecoration : Kitchen Cabinet Painting

by Tazim Damji

Renovating for family is always a tricky business. It's easy to get a client that's sought you out to take your advice seriously—after all, it's your advice and opinion that they've hired you for. It's harder to get yor Mom to see you as a professional. I'm glad that I'll always be my Mother's little girl—but after all those years of school she helped to pay for, and all the years of work experience—it still took some convincing to get her to let me paint over her dark navy walls and darker ...

Clutter Above Kitchen Cupboards —Renovation Redecoration Project

by Tazim Damji

Do your upper kitchen cabinets go all the way to the ceiling, or is there space above them? My mom's upper kitchen cabinets have lots of room above them—for dust. I am debating whether or not to put lights up there. It may seem like a good idea, but I know they'd never be turned on (we were raised to basically live in the dark). Another option is to add height to the tops of the cabinets—something decorative, perhaps with crown moulding at the ceiling.  As you can see—all the souvenir mugs, ...

Pfister Kamato Single Control Lavatory Faucet Review—Renovation Redecoration Project

by Tazim Damji

I like to check out the washrooms (restrooms) in fancy restaurants and hotels. For me, this is a place where top of the line pieces can really shine. It is easy to skimp on furniture and still make a room look nice, but with plumbing, you need something that is both aesthetically beautiful and highly functional. Yes, I am a snob when it comes to plumbing fixtures. There are certain brands that make me go 'wow!' when I see them in places. Nice plumbing fixtures really show how much thought went ...

Pfister Kamato Faucet

by Tazim Damji

A new faucet can not only save you a lot of water, but can also completely change the look of your bathroom. I had a chance to review the above faucet, which you can read about here. This faucet is one of many beautiful ones available from Pfister. I love the way this faucet looks in my mom's bathroom. I am working on renovating and redecorating her home and this has made a big improvement! I love watching the water flow out of this faucet. ...

Renovation Redecoration Project Week of October 16

by Tazim Damji

So far, we have replaced the toilet in the main bathroom with a Kohler, water-conserving toilet. The toilet works really well, and I like the look of it. I know about quality plumbing products, and know that Kohler's range of products are of high quality and look great, too. We have also looked in to paint colours, and chosen some nice shades of yellow for the walls in the main living area as well as the upstairs. The yellow colour is quite neutral—not a lemon or neon yellow! What do you ...
