Rustic Wedding Ideas for Late Spring

by Tazim Damji

rustic wedding

Flowers are in bloom and just a hint of coolness still sits in the air. A rustic girl at heart, these wedding photos and ideas really appeal to me. I like the idea of having family and friends out in the country, staying at a Bed and Breakfast or Inn, and enjoying a weekend-long wedding celebration. ...

Spring Adventure Wish-List

by Tazim Damji

coleman road trip grill

I'm itching to get out of town and do some camping, how about you? It's still too cool at night to do so comfortably, but I can't help but daydream anyway. We've been lucky enough to both choose great quality camping and hiking gear that has lasted us for years, and to have received gifts from our families to replace the things that tend to wear out—like tents, sleeping bags and sleeping pads. So, we're covered on the camping/hiking front, but there are a few late spring/summer things for other ...

Backyard Landscape Inspiration

by Tazim Damji

backyard oasis

Nicer weather and the grass turning green makes me want to sit outside on a balcony or in the backyard. The funny thing about Calgary, though, is that people don't tend to make use of their backyards—I know the 'nice' season doesn't last very long here, but if I had the space to sit outside and relax, I'd certainly be making use of what space I had. I've always dreamt of having a little pond and a bridge in my backyard, like this one below: Source: houzz.com via Stacy on Pinterest ...

Spring Colour Trend from Pantone: Margarita—a Soft, Pale Green

by Tazim Damji

green suit

I've been seeing a lot of this shade around lately—one of my favourite shades of green, called Margarita by Pantone, which is finally popping up from the ground this year. As the season progresses, I'm sure the green grass and leaves will be turning their usual darker green shades, but for now I'm happy for the hint of green everywhere. Margarita by Pantone is a pale, muted green that reminds me of Easter, 80s pant-suits and ribbons in little girls' hair.   ...

Spring Colour Trend — Pantone Cabaret Hot Pink

by Tazim Damji

Pink room

I know many people who love the colour pink, and would gladly change up their décor to add in this Pantone spring colour trend: Cabaret. For those who aren't afraid to use a bit of paint to change the look of a room dramatically: source I like the idea of a bright coloured bathroom—though be careful with the colour you choose. We painted our bathroom green once and we ended up looking really strangely coloured when we looked in the mirror before leaving. For less Cabaret (hot pink), try ...

Spring Finds from Gus Modern Furniture

by Tazim Damji

gus modern

Gus* Modern furniture is eco-friendly, well-designed and based in Canada. Jane Loft Bi-Sectional  I like the industrial look of this swing-arm lamp. My favourite item (and maybe the most popular one) is the 3-piece Prairie Table set of Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba, Canadian Prairie provinces. I love versatile pieces like this tree stump storage box: I could see this being used in a living room to store blankets. What else could you use this for? Maybe extra clothing, gloves ...

Spring Colour Trend from Pantone— Solar Power

by Tazim Damji

sunshine sofa

One of my favourite colours—what I would call mustard, but is called 'solar power' according to Pantone—is on the list of trending spring colours for 2012. Here are a few ways you can add this rich, warm colour to your décor and home: Designed by Homes & Gardens Young Designer of the Year, Naomi Paul. Photo source I remember chairs like the one shown above in the food court of a mall we went to when I was a child. photo source ...

Inspired By Daffodils—Yellow and White Décor

by Tazim Damji

daffodil

One of the flowers that comes to mind when I think of spring is the daffodil. Daffodils are sweetly yellow with white centres—a great contrast and definitely cheery.
