Texas Top 10

Texas is such a huge state with so much to see and do that one might feel overwhelmed with the amount of choices! A few years ago, my best friend Greg and I went on a two-week road trip through West and Central Texas to visit my dad in Midland and to enjoy the many things we love spending our time doing.

Among our favourite places in West Texas are: Marfa, Ft. Davis, Austin, Fredericksburg, and the museums and galleries in Dallas/Ft. Worth. As vegans, we were pleasantly surprised by the food options we found in Texas! That and the huge array of museums, galleries, and other cultural sites will bring us back again for another visit before too long.

Here are the top 10 things that bring visitors to Texas every year:

Texas Top 10

  1. Arts and Culture
I had the pleasure of enjoying the Dallas museum centre (and would happily go back again) and know that there is also a Houston museum district to check out. The Chinati Center, in Marfa (pictured above), is a highlight for anyone interested in art and culture.
  1. Culinary
There are tons of delicious food options in Texas, including plenty of vegetarian and vegan options, like the vegan burger, below:

  2. Wineries
I’m told that there are tons of wineries around the Fredericksburg area. The German Texas town is a great place to check out for wineries and other interests. I checked out the many antique shops and the National Museum of the Pacific War whilst in Fredericksburg.
  3. Spas and Resorts
  4. Outdoor Adventure

Near Midland there are sand dunes and all sorts of other outdoor adventures to be had. There are also plenty of National and State parks to explore, hikes and trails, and lots of beaches and lakes, too.
  5. Festivals
There are festivals and events year round, like the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo and Austin City Limits. Check out the Texas Tourism site to find one that fits your interests.
