9 Must-Visit Destinations in the Hudson Valley

Planning a trip to the Hudson Valley? Don’t miss these destinations.

1. This small, sleepy Village of Nyack is straight out of the Victorian era. Check out the cool, intriguing shops and sample local or international cuisine at one of many restaurants. Get tickets to an off-Broadway show, pop into a few galleries, and don’t miss the breathtaking view of the Hudson River.

2. Playland Amusement Park is now a historic site, but for kids growing up in the Hudson Valley, it was the best thing you could do on a weekend. Don’t miss the wooden roller coaster, which has been at the park since its opening in 1928. There are another 50 rides throughout the park, so you’ll have plenty to do!

3. The gorgeous Mohonk Mountain House is the perfect getaway for a long weekend. With 250 mountaintop rooms, the resort is one of the most popular Hudson Valley destinations. Even locals book a stay-cation there! Bring your hiking boots, too. There are plenty of trails on the property to help you explore the area and get a great workout in. 

4. Boscobel is an early 19th century mansion with decor and furniture from that period. Don’t leave without taking a stroll through the gardens.

5. The United States Military Academy at West Point has summertime activities for families, including music outside. Stroll along the same paths that presidents and generals have walked on. Book a guided tour at the Visitor Center. There’s also a museum on campus that showcases life as a cadet over the past 200 years.

6. Visit Kaaterskill Falls for the same view that painters from the Hudson River School have had. The two-tiered waterfall towers at 260 feet. It’s the highest cascading waterfall in the state. There are also scenic trails at both the top and the bottom of the falls.

7. Even the Visitors Center at the Franklin D. Roosevelt Home in Hyde Park is beautiful. President Roosevelt and Eleanor are buried on the site. Check out the renowned Rose Garden, as well as the museum.

8. The home and studio of Frederic Church, the Olana site has a lovely view of the valley, which served as inspiration for the artist.

9. The New York State Museum is a must-see for history buffs. This is the oldest state museum in the U.S. In the Terrace Gallery, you’ll see the best of New York’s regions. There’s also a historic carousel that you can ride on!
