Gyros Tools—Gyros Guard and Accessory Kit Review
A few weeks ago, we featured the Dremel Rotary Tool as part of our Father’s Day Gift Guide. Shortly afterward, Tazim hooked me up with another bit of rotary tool kit: the Gyros Guard Rotary Tool Safety Shield, as well as one of their accessory ProPaks.

Attaching to the end of the rotary tool, and working with nearly any screw-mount attachment, the Gyros Guide “Safety Shield” was at first a little fiddly to operate—however it significantly reduces the mess and spark that the cutting blades make. Because of the nature of the rotary tool, bits of whatever you’re cutting tend to launch in all directions, but the shield keeps things under control. And of obvious benefit to one as clumsy as I am— it keeps the blade away from your fingers.

My favourite thing about the safety shield though, is not that it looks after me, but that it protects my tool. The flat cutting disks tend to become both hot and brittle with use. The safety shield protects attached blades/wheels from being knocked about—which in my toolbox means that they last longer.

The aftermarket blades that GyrosGaurd makes also get my stamp of approval, for what it’s worth. They are certainly of equivalent quality to Dremel’s own, and have a heavy duty feel to them that I appreciate—plus it’s always great to see products that are made in the USA. Their “circular saw” blades are particularly useful in that they grip into the material you are cutting, making it more easy to start a cut without sliding about.

The Gyros Guard has a retail value of $20.50 and the ProPak has a retail value of $39.99. Both products and many more, can be purchased directly from Gyros Tools online.
