How to Make Your Own Lavender Linen Spray

I’ve been using the scent of lavender to help me get to sleep at night for years. Usually, I put a few drops of Lavender Essential Oil on my pillow, but with certain linens, the oil can stain. Plus, the scent is really concentrated in one location. I’ve seen linen sprays in stores before, but the bottles tend to be quite expensive—considering it is mostly water-based. I’ve seen bottles of lavender linen spray, in particular for $20 or more! Kind of crazy, right? Well, I got to thinking—how hard can it be to make your own lavender linen spray?

I put together a few bottles of lavender linen spray for next to nothing. Read on to see how I did it.

I was lucky enough to grab some gorgeous glass bottles from IKEA’s as-is section. Yes, the same bottles I talked about in my Valentine’s Day post. There didn’t seem to be any more sets of these lovely bottles in the IKEA store, so instead of buying more glass spray bottles, I purchased a few inexpensive plastic spray bottles, instead.

So, what do you need to make your own lavender linen spray? You can find these ingredients at pharmacies, or online at places like Amazon. Some people use vodka instead of distilled alcohol, but I find that vodka has too strong of a scent, plus – I don’t really drink alcohol, so it seemed like too much money to spend for this project. Distilled alcohol is really cheap, maybe about $1.50 or so. Distilled water is extremely inexpensive, so I would suggest you buy distilled water.

What to do:

1. Select the bottle you’re going to use

2. place a funnel in the opening/mouth of the spray bottle

3. measure 2tb distilled alcohol and pour it in to the bottle

4. measure 1/2 tsp of lavender essential oil and pour it in the bottle

5. fill the rest of the bottle with distilled water

6. close the top of the bottle and shake the mixture, gently

7. That’s it – so simple!

You can change the amount of distilled water you use depending on the bottle and how strong you’d like the lavender scent. You’ll need to gently shake the mixture every time you use the spray bottle, as it will tend to settle otherwise.

It really is that easy to make your own lavender linen spray! A bottle of lavender essential oil will go a long way if you use it in this way.

Use your linen spray:

-on your sheets when you iron them

-on your bed linens before bed

-on your towels when you put them in the cupboard to keep things fresh

Have you ever made your own linen spray?

You can make it more faint by adding in more distilled water, but it isn't very strong anyway.

I love lavender! This is so easy. I just read about using your favorite fresh herb, like lavender or eucalyptus and tie it around your shower head. When you take a bath or shower the steam will make the fragrance fill the bathroom!
