It is a well-established fact that even gluten could not escape Generation- Z’s cancel culture. Individuals are going to great lengths in order to avoid gluten consumption. This trend has turned out to be a bonding event for boomers, millennials, and the Gen-Z, the holy trinity. A prominent reason behind this initiative is the awareness regarding the celiac disease. The statistics received from a recent survey by The University of Chicago Medicine suggest that about 3 million Americans are affected by celiac disease.

Celiac disease is the primary reason for the growing intolerance of gluten among the masses. Unexplained infertility among 6% of the women in the US is caused by celiac disease. There are many other health concerns that stem from celiac disease. Hence, it is of great significance to diagnose this disease in the early stages. This goal can only be achieved by raising awareness among the masses about the disease.

Gluten intolerance can force you to make major lifestyle changes. There has been a change in the trends over the course of 20 years. This article aims to cover all the essential aspects, statistics, and myths associated with gluten consumption. Read until the end in order to get all of this information.

The Changing Face of Gluten Over The Years

It has been observed by multiple institutions that gluten sensitivity has risen more concretely among individuals in recent years. The spike is not because of a single reason but due to the involvement of multiple factors at play. If you wish to explore every single of those factors, then this article is just for you. Here is a quick list of pointers suggesting the different reasons as to why there is a spike in the number of people experiencing gluten intolerance. Read on in order to learn more intricate details.

  •  Lifestyle Choices

As per Dr. McCombs, world-famous for The Candida Plan, the current generation is observing a decline in the interaction with microbes that humans have evolved with over the years. This results in weakened immune systems and has been wreaking havoc on the general health of the masses. Many individuals who have been treated with worm therapy for this concern have shown tremendously positive results.

  • Overuse of Antibiotics

In the modern-day, there is a common misconception among the masses that the answer to every health concern is an antibiotic. However, the truth is far from it. As per the author of “Missing Microbes: How the Overuse of Antibiotics Is Fueling Our Modern Plagues”, Dr. Martin Blaser, the unnecessarily excessive use of antibiotics has been the root cause of multiple allergies and digestive concerns, including gluten intolerance. It is suggested that one must not go running to the medical center to grab antibiotics whenever encountering minimal health concerns. Most antibiotics cannot target specific microbes.

  • Changing Environmental Conditions

The menaces of global warming are growing by the day. It has been suggested in multiple theories that the change in precipitation has somehow affected the immunoreactive protein potential of wheat. This eventually makes it difficult for the small intestines to process it. This factor is irrelevant to celiac disease. In the past 12 years, a spike has been observed in individuals who do not suffer from celiac disease but still experience gluten allergy.

Is Gluten Harmful?

Considering the wave of changing trends. One after the other, people are quick to disregard certain food groups. There is a huge matter of concern stemming from the sense of balance that needs to be maintained between the genuine health concerns associated with a particular food item and the sudden urge to jump on a trend wagon. It is pretty much debatable whether gluten is harmful to every individual or just to the ones with medical conditions.

As per the textbook definition, gluten is the collective name for the different proteins present in wheat and rye-based food items. Wheat allergies are pretty common in children; the severity of interoperability can, however, range from low to extensively high. One can even expect episodes of severe nausea and vomiting. It is not just the individuals with allergies, but even if you have Non-celiac gluten sensitivity, then it is a no-go-show for you at least.

Many individuals tend to avoid gluten in lieu of weight loss. If you are someone with a gluten allergy, autoimmune diseases, or you have NCGS, then it is ideal that you stay away from gluten. Otherwise, there is no other reason for you to go on a strict gluten-free diet.

Conclusion

Even if you do not have severe health concerns, there is no harm for you to go gluten-free. If you are looking for different options and restaurants that can help you kickstart your fitness journey towards a gluten-free future, then you are in luck. Food chains like Outback Steakhouse, McDonald’s, and many others have been offering gluten-free food. You can check out their menu and find out whether your favourite food can be recreated without gluten.
