Some of my most memorable vacations are ones where I walked all day through cities I’ve never been to, wandering around museums and art galleries — and then relaxing at night in a comfortable hotel room. For budgetary reasons, I’ve certainly stayed in my fair share of budget motels or back-packer hostels, but never ended up getting a restful sleep at night. I find it difficult to sleep when sheets aren’t soft and smooth. I also find it difficult to feel totally refreshed from a shower or bath if the towel I’m using isn’t very absorbant and soft. Without the budget to stay in a 5 star hotel nightly, I’ve found a way to get the same luxury feeling in my own home.
One of my favourite brands for luxurious linens is Frette, a company out of Italy, started in 1860.
In the bathroom
To create a spa-like atmosphere for hotel luxury at home, choose fluffy, absorbant towels, and bath mats. A luxe cotton terry-cloth bathrobe will instantly relax you. Pop on your robe and paint your nails to extend the me-time in the bathroom. Add your favourite candles, and some soothing music and you’ve got your own spa.
Gorgeous Egyptian cotton towels are ideal for the bathroom. When I was living at home with my parents, I had to use scratchy towels that were thread-bare. I vowed to choose quality towels when I moved out, ones that would last a long time.
In the bedroom
In bed is where you’ll spend a third of your life, so create a comfortable, relaxing, luxurious setting. A good set of sheets will last you for years. The Triplo Bed Sheet set is just the kind of sheets that would be in the most luxurious hotels in the world. Actually, they may be the exact ones used. You see, Frette supplies linens to hotels around the world. It’s so important to have a great duvet, as well. I recommend putting a soft duvet cover on top, which can easily be washed (and bleached, if necessary).
What do you do to create a sense of luxury in your home?

I currently don't create a state of luxury but I would LOVE to. I'm thinking it's probably best to wait till the kids are older or out of the house though.

I looooove Frette! In my former fancy life I used to go to the Frette store in Southern California. Their sheets are really so luxurious!

Yes, for sure – I have some from them that I got about 10+ years ago, that are still in great condition. Definitely luxurious!

I want to get some larger, thicker bath towels for our home. When we moved in, we were severely budgeted and while we don't have those super thin towels that scratch, I wish they were more plush and luxurious!
