Before You Go! 3 Preparations to Make Before Setting Off on An RV Vacation

RV ownership is one of the most freeing (yet costly!) financial decisions you’ll make in your lifetime, with 8-9% of American households hopping onto the trend within the last few years. Not only does it mean cheaper vacation, but it gives you the ability to be self-sufficient and go wherever you’d like to go without relying on others or alternative transport.

However, if you’ve never been on an RV vacation before or are new to them, you might not be aware of all the RVing basics and preparation checks you should make before setting off. From taking out RV insurance to choosing the right location – many aspects go into a successful RV vacation. To help you out, we’ve outlined some of the crucial preparations to make below.

As you prepare your RV for your upcoming vacation, keep the tips mentioned above in mind. These could help you to feel more prepared for your vacation

Check Your RV Insurance

One important check you should make before you go on your RV vacation is checking your RV insurance to ensure that you have the recommended coverage and that it is valid throughout your vacation. The last thing you want is for your relaxing break away to turn into a vacation from hell by finding out that you and your belongings aren’t covered in the event of an accident, or damage. Or to find out that you’re not covered against something you thought you were – the hard way! To prevent this, contact your RV insurance provider and ask them to explain your policy so you’ll know precisely what you are and aren’t covered against.

You may also want to consider switching to a new provider like The Hartford, which might be able to offer what your previous policy needed. From insurance policies for RVs to insurance policies about your house, they provide a wide range of products for U.S. homeowners – consider contacting them directly to find out more and see how their policies could help you prepare for your RV vacation.

Take A First-Aid Kit

Although the last thing we want to think about while on our travels is the thought of anything happening to our family or ourselves, accidents can always happen. Therefore, it is essential that you pack a well-stocked first-aid kit with you on all RV journeys. Regardless of how careful you might be, there is always a chance for injury when travelling, whether you’re involved in an accident with another motorhome or one of your children injures themselves while playing.

Ultimately it is always better to be safe than sorry, and having a first-aid kit on board can prevent a minor situation from becoming major or keep it under control until medical personnel can help. So, always double-check before leaving that it is well-stocked and onboard in case of accidents.

Choose The Right Location

One of the main benefits of RVing is that you can choose where you want to go when you want. Due to this, there is a selection of popular RV parks across America for RV owners to take advantage of, but just because there is no shortage of them doesn’t mean that you don’t have to conduct relevant research beforehand.

In the best-case scenario, you’ll want to book something far in advance so that you aren’t rushing around trying to find something last minute and end up settling with something far worse than what you were expecting. Instead, compare sites, look at their amenities, and distance from tourist attractions. Use this to decide whether it’s a viable destination.

As you prepare your RV for your upcoming vacation, keep the tips mentioned above in mind. These could help you to feel more prepared for your vacation, knowing that all grounds are covered and that you have plans (and protection) in place should you need them.
