Maybe taking your vehicle in for an #OilChange doesn’t seem like the most romantic or fun errand for you and your partner to participate in, but it’s one of those things that is necessary to do for your vehicle’s health and maintenance. The time spent waiting for the oil change could be “wasted” looking at your mobile phone or on social media—or made more significant by using my Top 10 Daytime Date Ideas to make the most of your wait-time.
Truthfully, my partner and I love spending time together any way we can—even if it means running errands together. So, we don’t mind having to take my car in for an #OilChange since we can always find non-driving ways to spend quality time together. I love seeing my colleagues and friends spend evenings or days on the weekend focused on their relationships, with no distractions (kids, work, mobile devices) to take them out of the moment. Typically, I see them spending “date nights” at restaurants or at movie theatres.
While my partner and I like going out to eat and watching movies together, we prefer to meet-up during the day to soak up as much sunshine and daylight as we can (in rainy Vancouver, when we spend most of the day inside working—this is a must). Another reason I prefer daytime dates over ones in the evening: I used to be a night person (yes, people CAN change!) I now wake up around 7am to give myself some time in the morning to work on my blog before I have to head to work for the day. Even when I was a night person, I liked being home before it got too late (as a Cancer and introvert home is my favourite place to be).
My partner and I are using this #OilChange to help change the way you think about dates and spending time with your significant other. Here are our Top 10 Daytime Date Ideas:
- Go for a walk outside (rain or shine)
- Enjoy lunch in a restaurant (so much more quiet than at dinner-time)
- Read to each other (outside or in a coffee shop)
- Be playful (kick leaves, throw a ball or frisbee, have a snowball fight, or dance in the rain)
- Get snacks together and have a picnic
- Check out local public art
- Colour in a colouring book (colour on the same sheet. This is a fun and relaxing activity)
- Share favourite memories over coffee or tea
- Make up a story (one starts and the other continues. Go back and forth)
- Wander around a bookstore (I find this always brings up interesting talking points)
With so many great daytime date ideas, maybe you’ll actually look forward to your vehicle’s next #OilChange 🙂
There wasn’t a very big lineup to get an oil change, but we still wanted to make the most of our time together while we waited. It’s easy to find the automotive section in Walmart. They have big blue boxes hanging from the ceiling to direct you to different areas of the store. The Do it Yourself section is where the automotive department and everything you need to help keep your car well-maintained can be found. Quaker State® motor oil comes in regular size for when you need to top up your oil and jumbo size (pictured below), for when you need to completely change your oil.
While, I’m not interested in learning how to change my car’s oil by myself, my partner would also rather have someone else take care of this errand. My partner told me that, while he’s very handy when it comes to building things and working with his hands, plus anything to do with technology, car maintenance isn’t his thing. That’s okay, with our handy Top Ten Daytime Date Ideas list we can just take my car in for oil changes and other maintenance while we happily spend quality time together.
