- Start a scrap book at the beginning of important milestones, such as when you get married, when each of your children is born, etc. Each year on your anniversary you can look through the scrapbook you created for you and your spouse, and when your children grow up, you can gift each one with the scrap book you made for them through the years.
- Use photos on invitations, thank you cards, etc. This way, when you look back on events, you have the details (date, time, place) and a photo as well. Sometimes people forget a camera, so a thank you card with a collection of photos from an event is a wonderful way for them to reminisce, as well as a keepsake.
- Personalized photo gifts– a favorite photo can be made into anything now, so you can always fondly look upon your kids while you cook (on your apron), play cards (on the back of the deck), keep warm (on a blanket), decorate for the holidays (on ornaments), drink coffee (on your mug) and remember back when….
- Write a memoir-have your children keep journals while travelling, or during exciting times in their life. One day they can look back and remember not only the details of these wonderful adventures, but also what they were feeling and how they thought at the time- it’s fun to see how we grow and change in life.
- Create a memory book online– many companies offer photobooks, where you upload favorite photos and have them created in a bound, hardcover book that will not only last for many years, but can be displayed on a coffee table, tucked safely away on a book shelf, taken along to share, instead of languishing in a photo album in the attic or closet, forgotten.
Time passes very quickly, and one of the most rewarding things is to be able to look back on a life well lived, and time well spent. There are moments in life that are especially memorable, moments we want to remember and relive. I share a lot of these moments for my family on my site Penelope’s Oasis, and while not everyone wants to write about their family on their blog, that is one way to record life for some people.
Here is a list of other ideas for preserving these special moments to look back on, share with others, and one day pass on to your children:

Great article! I've journaled every since I was 10 – I write down what's going on and what's on my mind, and I also glue in photos, tickets, or other paper mementos to remember that day by in the future.

I started a journal when I was pregnant with my boys and kept it for several years. It felt like every day was a milestone! I did baby books, too.. but I love this post because these are great ideas for NOW.. because even though they aren't babies anymore, they still have so many great memories to keep!
Thanks !
