Winter Car Prep Checklist

It hasn’t really hit us here in Vancouver, yet—but I know that much of the country and the USA have been seeing signs of winter for a month or more already. If you regularly drive, you’ll not want to delay in getting your vehicle up to snuff winter-wise.

Last year, I shared a post about winterizing a car. There were quite a few things that needed to be done then, living in Calgary, which I am sharing again below:

Canadian Tire - Winter car prep

What You’ll Need For Winterizing:

  • Gas Line Antifreeze
  • Snow Brush
  • Ice Scraper
  • Tires with Enough Treads to Last All Season—or chains if you really need them.

Extras That You Might Want To Have:

  • De-Icing Spray
  • Emergency Heated Blanket
  • Emergency Roadside Kit
  • Heated Car Seat Cover

What You Need for Winterizing a Car in Vancouver:

  • Winter-worthy Windshield Washer Fluid
  • Headlights that are bright enough for all that rain
  • Tires that are good for a lot of water/rain so there isn’t a risk of hydroplaning
Recently, I went to my favourite automotive store–Canadian Tire—and replaced the regular headlights with the Xtravision ones which are much brighter. With all the rain and darkness due to the rain, it’s really important to have nice, bright headlights in this city.

Have you prepped your car for winter, yet? What else would you include on the list of things to do to prepare for the upcoming season?

Thank you for the reminder. I always put off or forget about winter car preparations until it's almost too late. This is a great checklist!

Thanks for your comment – it seems to sneak up sometimes, doesn't it? I still see some signs of fall, but know it is late November and winter will hit us pretty soon/quickly!

Nice post 🙂 preparing you car before the cold snap hits is important. And in case anyone hasn't prepared, I would recommend the following:

    – A cell phone

If you do not have the above:
    – a blanket
    – jumper cables
    – a flashlight
    – chains
    – a first-aid kit
    – a small knife
    – flares
    – a couple energy bars
    – watergloves
    – small shovel
    – waterproof matches
    – ice scraper
    – a prayer

But hopefully, you would have prepared well enough to not need these things 😛
