Top 10 Essentials for Summer Overnight Guests
It’s summertime and I’m getting my apartment ready for the arrival of a few guests! Because I live in another province from my immediate family, I often have summer overnight guests who stay between one and 5 days. I want to make my guests’ stay as comfortable as possible for the time they’re staying with me. Little details make all the difference. These essentials don’t cost much money and in fact, you could use things you already have at home.
With a list like this, you may run the risk of having your guests over-stay their welcome!
Here is a list of must-haves for making a room comfortable for summer overnight guests:

- Travel-Sized Toiletries—like shampoo, conditioner, body lotion, deodorant, toothpaste, etc.
- Extra Flip-Flops or Slippers—for wearing around the house or after the pool, beach or a shower
- Snacks—things like crackers and fruit for late-night snacks
- A Stack of Fluffy Towels—including one suitable for the beach
- A Clock with an iPhone Dock—preferably. . .they may want to listen to some music or relax in their room for a while without disturbing everyone else
- Magazines—different types, especially travel ones
- Scented Soy Candles—even having an unlit candle in a room provides a nice scent. Choose something relaxing. Or add a diffuser with a few relaxing essential oils to a little tray in the bedroom.
- An Extra Blanket—for cool evenings
- A Garbage Bin—It can be embarrassing to have to ask where one is or to traipse your rubbish all over the house just to throw it away.
- Cables and Cords—for plugging in a laptop or cellphone
