Did you know that not only does having the right mattress impact your sleep, having good bedding can also impact your sleep quality? Bedding refers to blankets, pillows, bedsheets, and other things that people use to protect and cover their mattresses. There are various types of bedding, including fitted sheets, flat sheets, comforters, quilts, shams, and much more. When choosing the right bedding, you can keep several tips in mind to help you make a good purchase.

How Does Bedding Affect Sleep?

The right bedding and the wrong bedding can impact a good night’s rest. There are other ways in which low-quality bedding can affect your sleep including:

  • Cause irritation to your skin–Bedsheets that are too rough can cause irritation to your skin or cause existing skin conditions to worsen. This can make it difficult for you to relax at night.
  • Trap too much heat-Many people tend to overheat at night while they are sleeping, which can lead to dehydration and sweating. You may end up tossing and turning all night to find a comfortable position or get up to drink fluids to regulate your body heat.
  • Won’t keep you warm-While some people tend to overheat during the night, others may be the opposite and get cold. Too many breathable fabrics may result in you struggling to find ways to get warm during the night which can impact your quality of sleep.

Tips to Select the Right Bedding

When it comes to setting up your bed, your options should be budget-friendly but of good quality. There are various factors that can impact the bedding sets that you purchase including:

  • Comfort– The material of the factor can play a huge role in the comfort of your bedding. The higher the thread count, the softer a sheet will feel. High thread count typically costs more but doesn’t always mean that they are of good quality.
  • Hypoallergenic– If you suffer from allergies, you may benefit from bedding sets that contain antimicrobial properties. You can easily get a more comfortable night’s sleep just by selecting materials that are naturally resistant to mites, mold, and dust.
  • Breathability– Always think about your preferred sleeping temperature when shopping for new bedding. If you usually get hot while you are sleeping, you probably want to lean more towards fabrics that are breathable. If you are the opposite, then you may want to purchase a synthetic layer to help keep in some of your body heat.
  • Quality-While it may be tempting to buy a sheet set that is cheap, an investment in a bedding purchase can make all the difference when it comes to quality of sleep. This can benefit your health by giving you a more comfortable place of resting.
