A malfunctioning garage door can be more than just a nuisance. It can also pose a security risk for your family or employees (if you own a business).

When you need emergency garage door repair, it’s important to make sure that you choose a reputable company. Here are some tips on how to do so.

Broken Cables or springs

Garage doors are heavy and rely on the cables and springs to operate. Over time, these parts can break or wear out due to regular use. This is why it is important to regularly perform visual inspections of the parts and replace them when necessary.

Corrosion is another common reason for broken cables. This happens when iron, water and oxygen interact to form rust, which severely weakens the cable. This usually occurs at the bottom loop sleeve end of the cable.

Remove the old cable by unscrewing it from its attachment on the track (usually an “S” hook) to replace a broken cable. When installing the new cable, you must follow the same path as the old one. It should also match the diameter and length of the old one.

Unbalanced Doors

An unbalanced garage door often results from a problem with the torsion springs. These powerful springs allow the doors to travel up and down on tracks but can become uneven over time. This will eventually cause the panels to flex and buckle while moving, creating a dangerous safety hazard in your building.

If your garage door makes loud noises while opening or closing, it is most likely unbalanced. This may be caused by foreign objects stuck in the movement path or excess strain on the opener. A professional can fix the issue without damaging the high-tension springs or causing injuries to someone in your home.

An unbalanced door can also take noticeably longer to open or close than normal. If the process takes more than a few seconds, it’s time to call a professional to fix the issue. Doing so will spare you the cost of a more expensive repair bill.

Frozen Doors

During winter, it’s not uncommon for residential and commercial garage doors to freeze shut. This can be a major inconvenience in homes and a security risk for businesses. If your door is stuck, emergency garage door repair near me is the best option to minimize damage and prevent further problems.

Attempting to shift a frozen door manually can be tricky and potentially dangerous. You may break the handle or seal if you try to do this slowly. Instead, use a scraper or spatula to chip away any surface ice and apply pressure. You can also try pouring room temperature or boiling water around the handle and seal to help break the ice loose.

A garage door is a big investment, so taking care of yourself is important. Regular maintenance and quick fixes can keep your door functioning properly for a long time so that you can avoid costly repairs later on. If you think a problem with your garage door is an emergency, call for 24-hour repair service immediately to prevent further damage.

Unusual Noises

With the average homeowner opening and closing their garage door 1,500 times a year, it’s no wonder that repairs are needed occasionally. While some garage door issues can be resolved at home, a few repairs require an expert technician’s help.

For example, if your garage door is making unusual noises such as popping sounds, squeaking or scraping, these are signs that the springs are probably worn out and need to be replaced. A professional technician can make the right diagnosis and provide you with the necessary replacement parts.

In addition to repairing broken parts, an expert garage door repairer can install new comments like a battery backup feature allowing you to open and close your garage door without an auto-opener. He can also upgrade your doors with new insulation to improve energy efficiency and lower utility bills.
