Back to School & Home Office—Fresh Starts

The Labour Day long weekend has long been considered the ‘official’ end of summer and the beginning of Back to School season. Even if you or your children aren’t going back to school, it still feels like a great time of year to start new things, do some future-planning and take a look at how you’re progressing with your year’s goals.

Many of my friends who are in their 20s that have been working for a few years have decided that this year is the year to go to college, and others have made major career changes or, like myself—major moves. Having just moved back to Vancouver after a year in Calgary, I’m ready to start getting my life and goals back on track. School/education-wise, I have plans to continue my 2nd language training and start volunteering for places related to my field of study. I’ve been thinking of going back to school in 2014, but we’ll see about that.

For now, with a new place comes the need to organize the (at present makeshift) home office in my apartment.

I'm glad to hear that you're planning on putting together a dedicated home office space. I'd love to see how it turns out! Do you have any specific questions or need help in a particular area?

My kids just started last week, and boy was it hard to organize everything! Their lists were so specific!! Thanks for your tips!

My kids went back to school in early August, so I think we are finally getting settled into the routine. I have two in high school and one in middle school – and, my oldest is 19 and still trying to figure out what to do with his life. Thanks for the organization tips!

I always feel like fall is a fresh start too. I'm glad that you have a pretty good direction on where you're going next. Good luck with all of it! I'm still trying to figure it all out. But I definitely need to get a fresh start on organizing my home office. Thanks for the push!

Thank you for commenting. Believe me, I am still trying to figure things out as I go, too! I have ideas on how I'd like my life to go/direction I'm heading, but of course—things don't always go as we've planned. 🙂 You're welcome, I plan on showing more home office organization ideas during September.

I'm about to graduate college and get married, and with the nature of our jobs and continuing education, we REALLY need to stock and organize a home office. I see you're an avid traveler– we'd like to be too, before kids, but alas… most of our money will probably go toward decorating and paying the bills for now :/ Hopefully use of our home office will help us make enough to remedy that!

      Hi Scarlett,
Thanks for your comment – the last year of college can be really tough! I just graduated last year and it wasn't an easy journey/experience! Congratulations on the upcoming wedding.

Yes, we have travelled a lot —but I didn't finish university in 4 years, I spread it out over 7 years, and worked and travelled at the same time, plus I started later than most people (24) so was able to travel before I went back to school.
