Although I am not someone who believes that there should be a ton of outdoor lighting that remains on —because I don’t like the light pollution of it all—I do like the idea of choice lighting for special occasions.
When choosing outdoor lighting, why wouldn’t you choose something that is eco-friendly?
Solar lighting is great for places that get enough sun (unlike Vancouver, most of the year) during the day, so that the lighting can shine at night. I like the look of these mushroom-y looking lights from Corona Solar Lighting.
Solar lights basically pay for themselves when you have them installed in your home. You have the advantage of a well-lit space without the additional cost of paying for the power it consumes. Solar lighting has also become really cheap so the upfront cost won’t break your bank.
The outdoor deck is the perfect place for entertaining your family and guests. These solar post lights are perfect for setting the mood for a chill night in. The best thing about them is the easy installation. Simply mount them on your deck posts, and you’re good to go.
IKEA also carries solar lighting, and Notcot shows their range.
LED lighting is another great choice, because LED lighting lasts 50,000 or so, uses less power than incandescent and even fluorescent lighting. LED lighting has really come a long way over the years, as you can see by my post on Philips Living Colors Lamp. Vibia makes a range of fun, and unique outdoor LED lighting:
I think this would make for a very nice, intimate evening meal, don’t you?
Of course, you could always go with candlelight, preferably with soy wax candles:
